If you ever delved into the current catalog of adult virtual reality porn games, you’d quickly realize that games, unlike videos, give us the ability to be an integral part of the sex. With motion controllers and positional tracking, you are able to interact with the environment, move around, and most importantly, fuck around as you please. It’s a completely hands-on sexual fantasy, where you’re in control of everything in the world, easily having your desires manifested. A dream come true, indeed.
Sadly, content is often limited in adult VR games. It doesn’t have a stream of almost every fantasy every imagined compiled into porn like 180-degrees video. With what I believe is an upcoming standard feature though, this shall no longer be the case. But before that, let us discuss what is enabling it and why it is so important.
Most of the current adult projects are crowd-funded and supported by the community on Patreon. As Patreon is easily the biggest vendor for adult virtual reality experiences, by looking at the numbers of Patrons and comparing, we can see and understand which virtual reality porn game features are in demand and which aren’t. That way, we can focus on what makes the virtual love making so good and avoid the bad. Upon closer look; you’ll soon realize it all just makes sense.
Everything You Desire
There is an interesting pattern going on right now with VR porn games. Based on the numbers of Patrons, the adult VR games that tend to be the most loved and supported are the ones heavily based on customization.
Thinking about it, it’s very obvious why this is the case. These simulator-esque games – such as VirtAMate and Waifu Sex Simulator– offer the player a vast amount of options on how they want the action to unfold. It doesn’t cost too much monthly as well, considering the player can get a plethora of experiences playing it. Other types of games are limited to what their creator can put into them, while these games depend on the players’ creativity and hunger for good porn. It’s perfectly logical why these games are pulling ahead.
It’s no coincidence, just run through the list of the hard-hitters in the virtual reality porn game industry and you’ll quickly realize that any game that tries to break that mold of “customization first” experiences are either a terrible value for the content you get, suffer from slow progress, or both.
So, yeah the demand is obviously towards more open ended simulator-esque adult experiences. What’s so killer about this feature though? It’s been around forever. Well… It’s more about spreading the love, really. And it’s coming soon to the biggest adult simulator currently around.
Community Driven
The idea is since most of these game are more like simulators, developers would give players the tools to make and share scenes inside the client. This would basically make the content of the game depend on the community and the only thing the developer needs to work on is giving them tools to help them create these sexual fantasies. Then there would be a large library of player generated content that is available to the player base. This has worked successfully before in Yiffalicious, one of the bigger – yet very niche – adult games on Patreon. Frankly, its virtual reality capabilities also suffer because it’s obvious the game was made for two-dimensional porn and then the virtual reality option was added later. That is the case with Honey Select as well.
A somewhat similar feature is the cards system for Honey Select. Honey Selects strength lies in its character customization features and the wealth of player created mods available for it. Using the character creator, people can make anything from celebrities doppelgangers and porn stars to their own unique character and share it on the forums available online. Cards also allow you to share your own scenes. It’s the main reason this game is hailed as one of the best in the genre.
This game also suffers from the same flaws the Yiffalicious suffer from as it was also made for two-dimensional porn. The virtual reality capabilities are a modded feature and you can not interact with the models. It’s also tricky to install since the game is originally in Japanese and the only way to translate is also through a mod. When you’re past all these obstacles, you’ll definitely see why so many swear by it as the best virtual reality adult game. You can literally find character cards for thousands of different girls and thousands of different scenes on Honey Selects’ Booru page and fuck them any way you want. After the steep learning curve, the game never grows stale as there is always a community creation out there that will satisfy your urges.
Both of these games are examples where community driven content in virtual reality has helped the game strive beyond its normal means. They also both suffer due to the fact that they are made for two-dimensional porn and are missing important virtual reality features like interaction and binaural audio. If only we can bring the community-based features of these successful 2D games and bring them to modern virtual reality games… Maybe we could.
Enter MeshedVR. He is the creator of the highly regarded adult simulator Virt-A-Mate. The strength of his game lies in its ability to be completely customizable from top to bottom. Better yet, he has this feature planned. Yes, that is right, you’ll be able to share your creations through the game’s client. Why is this big news? Well… Let’s look at it this way. Have you ever wondered why most virtual reality porn games on Patreon look the same? That’s because you’ve probably noticed.
Most adult virtual reality developers on Patreon – around 90% of them – use the Genesis 2 or Genesis 3 Daz3D models with Unity or Unreal Engine. While Daz3D models can heavily be tweaked, we rarely see that from modern developers. So we can say they have, more or less, the same models as MeshedVR -minus the soft body physics system because that is custom written programmed by Meshed. Being a sim, Virt-A-Mate could be all the other games in one when this feature is released. All Meshed needs to do is supply the tools, clothes, and environments and watch his community get creative. Woah.
Hopefully, when that happens, the more generic games can be set aside and more creative games like Meakrob47‘s Blender Sex Game can find a larger audience to support it.
Coming Down – Conclusion
Primarily this fixes one of the bigger issues with virtual reality porn games – a lack of content. This feature is still on the way for Virt-A-Mate but for all the other games that used similar methods – primarily Yiffalicious and Honey Select – have proved how given the tools, an audience can help the game evolve. But those games are intended to be played in 2D and the virtual reality capabilities were just slapped on. The reason Virt-A-Mate has an advantage on both of those titles is that it was made with virtual reality in mind. It doesn’t lack interaction like those other games, it isn’t a quick mod or anything of that sort. It’s a fully fledged sim.
Oh, and by the way… it has already started. Going through Virt-A-Mates’ community page – with what little assets were supplied by MeshedVR for its first release – you can see how creative the community has gotten with a sim that has been released around a little over a month ago. It’s really promising since the upcoming 1.1 release will give us the ability to capture animations using motion controllers and I can’t wait to see what his Patrons will do with that powerful tool!
I do believe that for now – a time where content creators budgets are limited – that community shared scenes would allow adult virtual reality gaming to inch closer to catching up with 180-degrees porn videos and find a more mainstream audience. Optimally, it should allow both free and paid users to create scenes but offer the paying user an added advantage. Kind of like free to play online games. With community sharing features coming soon to Virt-A-Mate, I believe that if MeshedVR manages to implement it properly, there is a lot of hope that this grows to be the standard for the next few years. Mostly because, until virtual reality is truly mainstream, CGI experiences like VR Kanojo that also have a lot of content are just not financially viable.

Fallen Doll is customizable and the main character is exquisite.
Still in development.

from the screenshot, it looks like its not in english yet, is it true?
duckbaraboo says
You mean Honey Select? There is an English version out there, you just have to mod the game.

Interesting point about the importance of customization. Yeah, people need variety, but they don’t need a complicated UX with every option imaginable. The designer has to find the right way to give variety, while keeping it super easy for the user.

Yeah, you’re right. After a while of using Virt-A-Mate, you do get used to it though. But I am sure not everyone gives it the time to understand the ins and out and I can’t really blame them. It can take a while.
