After being announced at the Oculus Connect 6 conference in September 2019, the recent arrival of hand tracking to the Oculus Quest toolset has thrust the next phase of VR operation into the hands of users. It may be relatively early days for Quest’s hand tracking, but hopes are high that it could have major consequences for VR users and, like most VR tech advances, porn users in particular.

Your Hands Are Your Controllers
Hand tracking rolled out to Quest users on December 10 in the Version 12.0 software update. Provided as an experimental feature and allowing navigation of Quest Home and System menus along with Oculus TV and Browser, precision hand tracking has been touted as a significant VR breakthrough. And it’s easy to see why: controllers not only add extra hardware to your setup and consume power, they tend to be hard to clean and are cumbersome to use mid-fap. There are even suggestions that Quest’s hand tracking may also serve as a testing ground for its eventual release to Rift S users, inviting another Oculus user base into the hands-free future.

Quest users trying out hand tracking will note that it’s still in development and has only limited third-party support. While there haven’t yet been any standout adult apps to capitalize on Quest’s hand tracking capability, indie game developers and major adult studios both are pushing hard for far more natural, customizable, and user-friendly virtual sex. When precision hand tracking becomes more commonplace, expect more immersive VR porn, sure, but also prepare yourself for a whole new generation of truly physically interactive VR porn games.
