On The Ultimate Ranking (VRPTR #101)

In the last episode of VR Porn Threesome Reviews, I’ve had the pleasure to reminisce and recollect on some of my best and worst memories from the 104 articles I’ve written on the adult genre involving 3 performers. It’s exactly the reason that I like to think about it as the greatest and most ambitious project in all of virtual reality porn, and something to be used as a reference in future writing projects or development projects that improve previous releases.

But in order to reach that ideal goal I envision, a few arguments and explanations have to be presented.

1. Statement on Methodology

First of all, there are certain points to be expressed and clarifications to be made in terms of methodology and its relation to the intended high degree of objectivity. When you embark on a narrative project that relies mostly on your momentary perceptions, there is the risk of grading a title too harshly or too generously, according to your mood. That’s why I feel like there are titles that deserved better, and others that didn’t really live up to their good grades.

In a way, it reminds me of the Rolling Stone magazine in their early years and how rock critics would slam big acts such as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, and AC/DC – they had no idea how these bands and artists would grow into some of the greatest of all time, and couldn’t tell how influential they would become for the next generations. It’s a lot the same with these early virtual reality porn releases, and you can never tell when the film you gave a 7 ends up winning awards for influencing everything that comes after it.

For example, I gave my first perfect 10 to “Hobbit: The Desolation of Cock.” When I watched it back in December, I thought it was the single greatest VR experience I’ve ever had. It featured a 360-degree field of view, realistic costumes, outstanding acting, believable characters, and a build-up that seemed new and totally appropriate for this new immersive type of adult entertainment. Furthermore, I fell in love with the looks of Courtney Taylor and Anya Olsen – held a high degree of esteem for their ability to interact, and felt mesmerized by the atmosphere they create.

In a nutshell, everything about the film seemed too good to be true. But in terms of action, it only features cowgirl variations and some lesbian elements. If I were to review it later on, after seeing more films and discovering other innovations of the genre, then the grade would have probably decreased to a 9.5.

Similarly, there are titles that I feel like I didn’t appreciate like I should have. For example, “Happy MILF’s Day,” the first film I ever reviewed, features some incredibly great anal scenes whose scarcity I just couldn’t properly comprehend when I was first starting out. My rating was a 9/10, but today I would give it a 9.3 just for the intense butt sex moments.

Should it be implied that the grades will now be changed and adapted to the acquired standards? Well, no. In such a field that relies on personal fantasies and perceptions, there are very few objective indicators that can be taken into consideration. Consequently, the single hottest experience that I perceive through the VR headset might seem boring to somebody else who looks for other elements. With a few exceptions, I don’t think that there are any bad threesome films in the world of VR, so excellence can be found in any title.

2. Statement on the Rating System

If you take a good look at the ranking, you will notice that there are only 17 grades that were given to the films, ranging from a perfect 10 to a passable but disappointing 5. Accordingly, the titles that have the same grade are supposed to have an equivalent degree of quality. This does not mean, however, that everything is comparable. Even in the case of VR threesomes, there are plenty of layers and variations that create distinct experiences that really aren’t similar enough to produce comparisons.

For example, let’s take two of the perfect 10 films WankzVR has released, “Easter Bunnies” and “That’s Showbiz.” They were picked from the same studio just to further prove the point, and they additionally feature the same FFM format. However, it’s pretty hard to compare a product with fantasy themes that features “bunnies” and clearly doesn’t really take itself seriously with a sexualized depiction of the music industry’s inner competition.

In different films with the same rating, you can identify many common actions and recurring schemes, but the atmosphere, the tone, the degree of immersion and the intended representation of reality are different. On one film, you can just have fun without caring too much about the details just because the tone is set so, whilst on the other, you might just feel like your wildest dream is finally coming true in a setting that looks just like your office, garden, or bedroom. The former implies a detachment from the events, whilst the latter is all about feeling close to the action, even to the extent of developing a connection with the performers.

Some would argue for the purely technical approach (evaluate the image quality, field of view, type of action, sex positions used, and see if the girls are hot enough), but relying solely on such a concept would defeat the purpose of the series. Yes, they are important criteria that are taken into consideration, but VR is all about immersion and feeling like you’re in the middle of the action. The narrative approach to reviews is something that I shall continue to stand for.

3. On the Evolution of the Series

If you read the first dozen of articles of VR Porn Threesome Reviews, you will discover that it was lacking an identity and was looking for a format to settle on. For example, the first two were pretty shallow and didn’t feature as much information, descriptions, and commentary notes as the later ones. Since I came up with the idea and was always encouraged to write according to my own style, I was only able to grow as a reviewer after becoming more experienced with the VR hardware and software (there’s always a learning curve for all of us), as well as finding a kind of pattern that makes the text easy to read, comprehensive, popular to large audiences, but still more cultured than anything around.

In a nutshell, the 104 reviews you can find attached to the ranking feature an increasingly higher quality of content because I, just like every other human being, have gotten better through practice and experience.

Though I have second thoughts about some films, none of the ratings will be changed. If the points are argued within the article with the right points, then there is no reason to change according to a second thought.

4. Is “The Ultimate Ranking” Legitimately the Greatest in History of VR Threesomes?

Yes, I strongly believe so. Just because I’ve exposed some of my personal thoughts behind the rating system and listed the issues that may or not be justified (they depend on one’s perception while viewing), doesn’t mean that there isn’t a degree of objectivity to back up the statements. The prescription pills also have a list of side effects, but just because they’re more likely to be felt among a certain category of consumers, doesn’t mean that the product doesn’t fulfill its main medicinal goal.

Though the evolution of the genre and its innovations will bring new and higher standards in regards to what a virtual reality threesome should look like, I like to think that “The Ultimate Ranking” is quite the reflection of virtual reality porn so far. We’ve come a long way, and if you compare the films presented in the first few reviews with the later ones, then you will certainly identify plenty of improvements.
