In the past, I have rated the Gear VR to be the best virtual reality headset for consuming virtual reality porn. It is far more affordable than the Oculus Rift or HTC. It is portable and does not create wire nests. Finally, it has an amazing pixel density that outmatches the more expensive full PC virtual reality systems out there.
The Gear VR has had time to gain traction in the market and it shows. Released in 2015, Samsung has been marketing its new Galaxy S Phones alongside the Gear VR virtual reality headsets. This has paid off big time. Perhaps because of the success of the phone, the Gear VR has now become the consumer market leader or as I like to say, “the king of VR.”
King of VR
The news that the Gear VR is the king of VR comes from a survey released by the statistical masters over at ReportLinker has revealed Samsung Gear VR’s market dominance. Yes, all you Oculus and HTC Vive fanboys out there, statistics can be manipulated. That said, for the most part, statistics work great in the field of consumer markets because they show us representations of the overall consumer market. With this in mind, ReportLinkers results should understand as representations of the overall virtual reality market.
VR Awareness on the Rise
ReportLinkers surveys show some interesting results. First of all, their surveys show that Americans are becoming more and more aware of VR. Maybe your grandpa doesn’t know about it yet but he probably will by next Christmas. ReportLinkers say that the amount of Americans aware of VR has doubled since last Christmas. ReportLinkers say, “31% of American respondents say they are very familiar with the virtual reality technology, meaning this statistic has nearly doubled since last September (16%).” This means that companies with mega-marketing efforts are driving virtual reality into the consumer’s mind.
Samsung = VR
Samsung benefits…
The doubling of mindshare was not spread evenly amongst the virtual reality companies. When asked “when you think of virtual reality headsets what is the first brand that comes to mind?” For the most part, consumers named Samsung when asked to respond to this question. More specifically, 28 percent answered Samsung, 11 percent answered Sony, 10 percent answered Oculus, 5 percent answered Google and a sad 2 percent answered HTC.
VR Headset = Gear VR
Additionally, it was found that consumers mainly know the Gear VR headset. When asked “Which of the Virtual Reality Devices have you heard about?” 58 percent of consumers answered the Samsung Gear VR, 32 percent answered Google Cardboard, 31 percent answered the Oculus Rift, 24 percent answered the Sony Morpheus, and 13 percent answered the HTC Vive.
Why Should You Care?
Beyond being recognized as a great virtual porn device, it appears that consumers are also recognizing Samsung’s Gear VR as the main consumer virtual reality headset. This is important because more consumer recognition means move research and development money will be thrown at the Gear VR team while other virtual reality headsets will be able to ride on the coattails of the Gear VR marketing.

In the end, This means we will get better virtual reality porn consumption devices. This year’s Gear VR and Galaxy S8 already look like they will be the best headset Samsung has ever released. With the addition of a desktop mode that will make downloading and organizing your VR porn easier than ever, the Gear VR will be the king of virtual reality porn in my book.

Samsung is swiftly moving towards making its Gear VR headset available for more customers… The latest inclusion of controller support to the Gear VR extends more possibilities with the VR Headsets… The great this is, it is getting upgrades while still keeping the costs low

You forgot to mention about the 35% who didn’t know a VR headset. That’s a significant amount. I’m still betting on the Oculus Rift to top these headsets. 😀
