In 1993’s Sly Stallone blockbuster “Demolition Man” movie, audiences got to see Sylvester Stallone and Sandra Bullock have virtual reality sex. This was one of the earliest cinematic depictions of VR sex that I can remember. Set after a major action scene, the virtual reality sex between the star of Rambo and the lead actress of Speed is funny because Stallone’s character expects real sex but instead is neurologically stimulated with disappointingly spazzy VR sex that beamed from a headset into his mind.
When Stallone tells Bullock’s character that he expected real sex, she freaks out and says. “you mean fluid transfer… you know what that leads to?” Stallone replies, “kids, smoking, a desire to raid the fridge.”

Almost 25 years later, we finally have virtual reality sex. Our present day and age are different from the future that Stallone’s character John Spartan was trapped within. In Demolition Man, virtual reality sex existed to replace real sex which society had deemed too dangerous. In contrast, our virtual reality adult applications and headsets can serve a purpose that is very different from non-sexual VR headsets found in the dystopian future of Demolition Man.
This purpose revolves around the issues inherent to long-distance relationships. To create intimacy, many couples are using virtual reality as a long distance sex tool. That said, currently, only the most adventurous sexually pioneering couples are taking advantage of virtual reality technology in this way.
360 POV and Long Distance
One of the easiest ways for couples to have virtual reality sex requires the use of Samsung Galaxy phones, a Gear VR headset, and the Gear 360 camera. With this setup, couples can produce virtual reality sex videos for, and with, each other. Couples using this setup, use Samsung’s Gear360 camera to shoot full 360 point-of-view (POV) videos.
With the Gear 360, couples position the camera as close to one of the user’s heads as possible while filming. This is so the full 360-degree simulates their perspective. When viewed with the Gear VR headset, the resulting video immerses the viewer in the alternate viewpoint that was captured during the action.
I have known and interviewed several adventurous techie couples that have had fun making videos in this way. As previously mentioned, they use this type of 360° videos as a long-distance intimacy tool.
In such cases, traveling partners produce several 360° videos – one from his perspective and one from her perspective – before leaving on lengthy business trips.
While away, these couples choose times to synchronize their viewing so that they can “have virtual reality sex together.” Corresponding male and female sex toys provide physical stimulation. My adventurous friends say that synchronizing pre-recorded sexual acts does the job and makes long distance relationships more tolerable.
Problems and Potentials
All the couples in the small pool that I interviewed (three couples) said that this form of virtual reality sex has made their relationships better. Yet they all admit problems still do exist. Technical issues often make saving and transferring videos a struggle thus presenting a steep learning curve. Additionally, all of the couples that I interviewed said they were “looking forward to live-streaming 360° video.”
They all agreed that streaming VR video would make VR sex more exciting. With the release of Samsung Gear 360 Camera, this will be possible within the coming months because Samsung’s new camera can broadcast 360° videos. Using the new Gear 360, couples will be able to potentially broadcast themselves to their partners to provide live virtual reality sexual videos.
Even with the live streaming potential of the new Gear 360 camera, problems will still remain. Lonely couples will have to pay big bucks for two Gear 360 cameras ($399) while also working around the fact that their partner’s face will be obscured by a headset. That said, Google is working on new tech that will display faces that are normally blocked by headsets.
With innovative tech like this, falling prices, and lower technical hurdles, it’s not hard to image that virtual reality sex could become a common way for long distance couples to stay close while maintaining the intimacy that’s too easily lost over an abundance of time and space.

I can’t imagine how you can “synchronize” these vr porn videos. Unless there’s an available video that is both male and female POV of the exact same scenes that I did not know of? I mean, yes, we can watch normal videos, but I don’t think my gf would be as pleased as me while watching a girl “fuck her” lol but this could be something!
