For the most part, this series’ VR film reviews had been positive. If you pay close attention to the ratings and to the words that were used to describe the situations and sum of experiences, then you will realize that the grass is green, the girls are pretty, and virtual reality porn must really be Paradise City! However, there is a methodological reason behind the result: only the best releases have been picked for review, and each time a bad one was put under scrutiny it was for the sake of making a point.
In order to identify the gems of this industry, you also have to take a close look at the average and simply bad titles and spend hours trying to identify the flaws and issues in idealized situations that are way better than real life anyway. But protecting your audience by only highlighting qualitative releases comes at a great cost: you might suggest that every film has the potential to become a triple-A hit with a perfect 10 rating.
Just take a look at the Ultimate Ranking, a chart which was published 9 months ago: it’s a database of film recommendations that have been reviewed throughout the VR Porn Threesome Reviews series and no listicle has managed to top it thus far. It’s huge, exhaustive, and might as well serve as your introduction to VR porn. But from a strictly quantitative perspective, you will notice that the films with a high rating are much more numerous than the bad ones. It’s because of a rigorous selection that seemed to work for both fans and industry fellows who read the reviews: if they see what’s great, it’s more likely that they will imitate and adapt within certain standards.
Today we’re about to break the chain of excellence and once again make an example out of a bad film. Not because it’s fun to rip on poor quality releases, but because it’s necessary to maintain the standards high and demand for studios to give us the best content possible. So without further ado, you better get ready for an unusual review!
“Bad Friends” by VirtualRealPorn
Where do we begin? Well, let’s just mention a toxic bias from the industry which closely resembles the hot hand fallacy from basketball: if you notice that a certain studio has an astounding number of top-tier VR porn scenes, you automatically assume that their quality standard is that high and they constantly stick to their principles. Now it would be mean to blame the entire studio for one bad project, but executives should know better before releasing something that doesn’t live up to the expectations they previously set.
VirtualRealPorn is a pioneering studio and it deserves all the praise in the world for carrying the VR torch for over 4 years. 17 films of the first 100 that were reviewed in the series are glorious releases of theirs, and it always seemed as if the content keeps on getting better. If you look for the beginnings, you will notice that they are pretty modest by today’s standards. However, there is a noticeable improvement and an evident learning curve that the European studio shows off.
As it turns out, you can’t always hit a home run even if your swing is usually outstanding and possess a thick bat. The virtual reality porn scene that we’re about to review is just bad and doesn’t do justice to what we’ve learned to expect from a prestigious VR studio. There is no sense of immersion or identification, the acting is poor at best, the script makes no sense whatsoever, and it just seems like a bad excuse to get some performers together and shoot another production.
A narrative concept that really makes no sense and sub-par acting are the ultimate vibe killers.
Virtual reality porn has always been known for situations that seem way too good to be true. But the plot in this one is ridiculous: you visit your girlfriend’s house only to discover that she’s not home and you must make a brief and awkward conversation with her housemate and best friend Lovita Fate.
Though Lovita is supposed to know these details, she still asks about the time that you’ve been dating her friend, only to reveal that your sweetheart isn’t home because she’s cheating on you somewhere else. So since your lady, whom you’ve been seeing for over a year, is enjoying the big cock of some other man, you’re supposed to feel like taking revenge on her by screwing her all-natural blonde friend in the kitchen. It makes sense so far, right?
Well, your spontaneous debauchery is interrupted by the return of your girlfriend Daisy Lee, who catches you right in the act. Instead of acting in a way that makes sense and showing any signs of jealousy, she just takes you into the living room and jumps on your hard cock instead. And correspondingly, Lovita Fate is nice enough to just leave and allow the two of you to make some sweet love as if nothing happened.
So here you are, just you and your lady making sweet love on the living room couch and allowing her to unleash her wild energy on top of your cock. Everything is fine, except for the fact that Lovita walks into the room as if nothing really happened, and instead of being frowned on for interrupting the sweet couple love-making, she gets invited to join in and once again get some of your dick! Nobody is supposed to show any real feelings, it’s all just laughter and humping, and consequently, there is no connection that you will be feeling to any of the characters.
The part that saves the film from being a complete disaster? The action itself.
“Bad Friends” is a little bit of an all-arounder which tries to encapsulate all the elements that make a production great. You get missionary sex in the kitchen with Lovita, cowgirl riding on the living room couch with Daisy, and doggy style with both when the threesome inexplicably happens. From this point of view, the film ticks all the boxes and fulfills all criteria to receive a seal of quality.
The bad news is that the standard was set so high that you will be immune to the arousal of bad acting and poor storytelling. Your mind will be much busier asking yourself how any of the actions make sense at all and why the film is even called “Bad Friends”. According to the events, they’re actually incredibly good friends who stand by each other and share some of their most intimate moments.
It’s also confusing that your girlfriend Daisy Lee catches you having sex with her best friend Lovita Fate, there are no feelings of jealousy involved, but the cute blonde mistress leaves as if she’s ashamed of the context. But only a few minutes later, she walks into the scene once again and acts as if nothing had happened and everything is new and exciting. Daisy’s memory has also been erased and she can’t remember being cheated on. This is either the worst plot and narrative development in any VR film ever, or something so deep and revolutionary that it transcends common understanding.
“Bad Friends” is one of VirtualRealPorn’s weaker efforts and it doesn’t maintain the high standard that VRP is known for. Final rating: 7.
It may be a little rude to not appreciate the efforts of two young, beautiful, and talented pornstars who do their best to play the script that they have been handed. But the writing and the acting are horrid enough to either make you not care about the events or make you wish you chose another film instead.
Virtual reality is all about engagement, feeling like you’re in the middle of the action, connecting with the character and being presented a story that’s believable, but unlikely to happen. But this is just bad fantasy and the narrative layers take away from the virtues of the great sex. It’s hard to watch something that offers nothing other than good sex, especially in a medium where you’re supposed to feel involved in the middle of the action.
Sexually speaking, the film has its highlights and it’s admirable that all the sexual positions are covered, you have sex both in the kitchen and in the living room, and you enjoy the presence of the girls both individually and collectively in a heavenly threesome. Yet couldn’t they wrap this beautiful product into a better package which sells the entire affair and makes it engaging and worthy of its time? In VR, the lack of immersion equals to a passive staring that doesn’t arouse you, nor does it make a good use of your limited time.
Lovita Fate and Daisy Lee do a great job sexually, but a bad one in terms of acting. They’re not believable at all, and their delivery doesn’t do much good to an already-broken script. But if you take a look at their portfolios, you will notice that they have quite an impressive collection of VR films and they’re all better than this one! So if you really want to have a great time, you’re better off looking elsewhere, as this one will leave you starring in a state that resembles that of Meursault’s from Albert Camus’ “The Stranger”.

I don’t find bad acting really bothers me too much.. maybe I’m just too simple minded. Another great article though :o)
