Our HTC Vive arrived today! Day 1 shipping arrival. Our Oculus Rift CV1 also arrived recently.
We’ve had crazy fun with the Rift so far. But now it’s time to get our minds blown by our new Vive.
This marks another major milestone in VR history. Valve has been working on this VR headset in some capacity for at least 4 years now. There was a long period of time when the Valve Room represented the state-of-the-art in this new generation of VR technology. It blew the minds of all who tried. But only a lucky few got to experience it. Now, the new and improved version is available to all.
Everybody can make their own Valve Rooms now.
There was a time when Oculus and Valve were collaborating more. But for various reasons, Valve decided to make their own VR headset. Now we have two excellent companies competing to be the best, and that is a great thing for VR.
Vive setup is a bit trickier than Rift setup. There’s more pieces and wires to put together. Whereas the Rift is more plug and play.
But the Vive also feels like a more substantial VR system. Its robust room scale tracking, superb motion controllers, and chaperone system are approximating true VR. The Rift currently feels more like an awesome new gaming console, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. But these differences should fade over time as the Rift introduces Touch controllers and both ecosystems develop and overlap.
What an exciting time for VR!

Vive is awesome. Looking forward to the new content.

i love my vive, but I think things still not be more standardized. for example, different games have you ‘walk’ using different methods. some are great, like the way vive teleports you in ‘the lab’. some are horrible, like games where you must literally rotate your body using the controller.
VRDroid says
you can’t beat the room-scale tracking of the Vive. oculus really messed up by not including that
Jammies says
So which is better? Rift or Vive?
dendrat says
They both have their plusses and minuses. Depends on what you want.
